Dentures

If you’re missing any of your teeth, you may notice a difference in chewing and speaking or smiling.

Removable partials or full dentures are replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases when there is absence of teeth. A denture or partial is a removable dental appliance that replaces missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are specially made to closely resemble your natural teeth and help enhance your smile and restore your natural function.

We offer two types of dentures – complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are recommended when all of the teeth are missing and partial dentures are used when some natural teeth still remain. Having a partial denture will not only fill the spaces created by missing teeth, but prevent other teeth from shifting or becoming loose.

A complete denture may be either “conventional” or “immediate”. A conventional type is made after the teeth have been removed and the surrounding gum tissue has healed, which usually takes 4-8 weeks. During this time, patients will be without teeth. An immediate denture is made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing patients from having to be without teeth during the healing process. Once patients have completely healed, adjustments to the dentures will have to be made.

A partial denture may have a metal framework and clasps that connect to your remaining teeth, or they can have other connectors that are more natural looking. In some cases, a removable partial denture is made to attach to your natural teeth with devices called attachments. Depending on your needs, your dentist will design a partial denture for you.

Whether partial or full dentures, when you have missing teeth, these types of removable prosthetics are a great alternative to replace teeth and may be the right choice for your lifestyle, please give us a call at 760-280-2270 to discuss your various options.
